For years, supporters like you have kept Baloo's story alive. Now, with a new Minister of Environment in office, we have a critical opportunity to finally secure his freedom.

We’re urging the Minister to take action for Baloo. Our goal is to have Baloo transferred to Libearty Bear Sanctuary, a partner of World Animal Protection. At Libearty, Baloo could finally roam freely across 69 acres of forest, meadows and ponds. A life of care, freedom and dignity that he’s never known.

Dear Minister Buzoianu,

I am writing to express my concern about Baloo the bear, who is in private captivity in Straja, Hunedoara County, and suffering in unsuitable living conditions.

Baloo is kept in social isolation, receives an inappropriate diet, and shows signs of painful health issues without any evidence of veterinary care. He is subjected daily to stress from tourists who pet him and take photos, posing a public safety issue. Keeping wild animals in captivity is unethical and violates Romania’s ban on private ownership of wild animals. A bear is a wild animal, not a mascot.

I urgently request your intervention to ensure that Baloo is transferred to Libearty Bear Sanctuary in Zărnești. They are prepared to provide him with a safe and natural environment, as well as the medical care he needs.

With 180,000 international signatures and counting, the rescue of Baloo is urgently being called for. 85% of respondents in a Romanian public survey conducted in December 2024 agree that relocating Baloo to a sanctuary is the most ethical and responsible course of action. I, along with many others, strongly urge you not to ignore this issue and to take action immediately.
