The COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on all of us, causing loss of life, economic disruption, and making it harder for people to live their daily lives. In fact, it's estimated that the pandemic will cost the global economy trillions of dollars by 2024.
Many pandemics, including COVID-19, have their origins in zoonotic diseases, which are caused by pathogens that are transmitted from animals to humans. The wildlife trade, which is a major contributor to pandemic risk, often involves cruelty and exploitation of animals. By supporting Bill C-293, we can work to reduce the risk of future pandemics and help to protect animals from suffering.
Bill C-293, the Pandemic Prevention and Preparedness Act, would require would require the Federal government to create a pandemic prevention and preparedness plan that addresses the root causes of pandemic risk:
